1. What is the difference between basement and cellar?
Generally a basement is an area of the ground floor with a separate entrance, and some natural light and ventilation. A cellar is simply a space under the ground floor, usually for storage with an access from inside the house by a staircase or trapdoor and ladder.
2. Can my house have a basement if there is no existing cellar?
In most cases we can build a basement where there is no cellar. It is possible in any house, no matter how big or small the house is.
3. Does a basement conversion need planning permission?
Yes. Planning permission is required when forming light wells and creating new habitable space. We offer a total package and will carry out all the design and planning for you.
4. How much will it cost?
Depending on what you require in your basement, and how big you would like it, the price will vary. The cost will be reasonable, and cheaper than moving to a bigger house. Adding a basement to your house will also increase the property value.
5. Can I stay at the house while the works are being carried out?
The works can all be carried out while you stay at the property, as we will be as discrete as possible. The building will remain safe at all times, and you will be able to carry on in your daily life undisturbed.
6. How long will it take?
Depending on the size, and the complexity of the project, it will take at least 6 weeks.
7. Will the new basement be dry?
